Porto

With the stunning Dom Luís I Bridge, world-renowned Port wine, and a beautiful waterfront perfect for strolling, Porto offers a delightful escape to relax and immerse yourself in its culture and cuisine.

Top destinations in Porto to explore!

Port Wine Cellars

On the opposite bank of the Douro River, Vila Nova de Gaia is home to the famous port wine cellars. I enjoyed a port wine tasting at Quevedo Lodge which provided 3 different ports along with a chocolate tasting.

Dom Luis I Bridge

Porto’s most iconic landmark, the double-decker metal arch bridge connects Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia. Walk across the upper deck for breathtaking panoramic views of the city or if you have a fear of heights, (like myself) you can take the metro across. Make sure to capture pics day & night of the bridge for stunning photos!

Villa Nova de Gaia Area

Across the bridge from the main city of Porto you’ll find the Gaia area where the Porto Wine Cellars are located and a waterfront Cable Car that provides great views of the bridge and the Duoro River.  Hot top: ride the cable car at sunset for a fantastic view of the city.

Ribeira District: This historic, UNESCO World Heritage-listed waterfront district is a maze of narrow streets, colorful houses, and lively squares. It’s the perfect place to wander, enjoy a meal at a riverside restaurant, and soak in the atmosphere.

Livraria Lello: Known as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, this enchanting shop is famous for its grand wooden staircase, stained glass ceiling, and intricate design. Note that there is now an entrance fee and line-ups so I reco to attend early morning for best chance of a short wait.

Porto’s Heritage Tram runs along the Douro River waterfront and it’s a lovely, scenic ride which ends at Passeio Alegre. I recommend travelling the tram in the morning or early afternoon as the tram can get hot inside as it travels along the waterfront with little shade.

São Bento Railway Station: Don’t just pass through this station; the main hall is a work of art. It’s famous for its stunning azulejo (blue and white ceramic tile) panels depicting scenes from Portuguese history.
